Guwahati: An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale struck at 8.33 am Saturday in Assam. Seismology The Center (NCS) said.
Tezpur, 41 km north-east of Sonitpur district of central Assam, has been hit by a magnitude 3.9 earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale, the NCS said. The depth of this vibration is estimated to be 16 km.
According to preliminary reports, no damage has been done as the earthquake is mild. But as the earthquake was felt at the original center of the earthquake and the surrounding area, people fled from their homes.
The land has been shaken many times over the past few years in Assam. Last month, Sonitpur was hit by an earthquake ten times in a single day. The earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale in Sonitpur on April 28 had struck the earth. Because of its strength, the land was inundated in many parts of neighboring West Bengal and neighboring Bhutan and Bangladesh. Many buildings in Guwahati were damaged by the earthquake.
