Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee His younger brother Ashim Banerjee, 60, is a victim of the coronavirus. He died at 9.30 am on Saturday morning at a hospital in Kolkata due to complications related to Covid.

In Bengal Lockdown
Lockdown has been announced in West Bengal for two weeks. A statewide lockdown has been imposed for the next two weeks starting Sunday (May 16). All offices and educational institutions will be closed during this period. Transport services, including the Kolkata Metro, will also be bundled, the government said.
Only emergency services are allowed. Only open 7 to 10 am to open grocery stores and shops selling essential items. But desserts and meat shops are open from 10 am to 5 pm. Petrol bunkers will operate as usual. The banks will be working from 10-2 am.
In West Bengal, 20,846 new Covid cases and 136 deaths were reported on Friday. A total of 10.94 lakh cases have been reported in the state so far. Bengal is among the 12 states that account for 79.7 percent of the total active cases in the country.
